HARRISON, Robert (1820-1897)
CL Leeds 1854; CL London Library 1857-1893
Originally a London bookseller's assistant he made an excellent impression at Leeds. His earlier period at London was, however, checkered, partly at least because of controversies over his living accommodation on library premises, comparable with some similar controversies at the BM during the first half of the nineteenth century. His later period there was trouble-free; his printed catalogues prepared the way for the later Subject Indexes. He was one of the founders of the LA, served as Honorary Treasurer until 1889 and was President in 1891.
